The Reddings Primary & Nursery School promotes the safer and more sustainable methods of travel in accordance with our School Travel Policy and encourage families towards methods such as walking, cycling, scooting, car sharing or public transport as it can improve health, wellbeing and the environment around us.
We have an active travel plan and support a number of initiatives, such as participating in Walk to School Once a Week and Walk to School Week schemes with Living Streets. We also undertake Bikeability training and participate in Sustrans Big Pedal competitions.
Our aim is to equip learners with appropriate road safety knowledge, scooter and cycle training to develop these all important life skills, which will support their eventual transition to secondary school where they are likely to be travelling more independently.
Storage is provided on site for bikes and scooters to be left during the day. Unfortunately, we cannot take responsibility for bikes left on the premises so we recommend that the bikes are locked whilst at school. Children cycling or scooting should be equipped with the appropriate helmets for their own safety.
If you do travel by car, we ask that you drive considerately and park in non-restricted areas in support of the ‘Don’t be a Road Monster’ campaign. Parents are reminded that they are not permitted to park their cars on school premises. Parents may choose to park on roads near to the school but we ask you to be considerate to our neighbours and not obstruct their drives or garages.
